The Democratic Party of the United States was founded in 1792 by Thomas Jefferson, who was elected as the first Democratic President in 1798. The Democratic National Convention established the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in 1848. The DNC is the oldest continuing party committee in the United States and the world.
